The Saskatchewan Long Term Care Network
The Saskatchewan Long-Term Care Network is an independent collective of family members, researchers, clinicians, and trainees that formed in March 2020. We work together to provide evidence- and experience- informed strategies to long-term care stakeholders during the pandemic and beyond. Our work is founded on the belief that strong relationships between residents, families, health providers, and decision-makers is the key to a strong long-term care system.
The Saskatchewan Long-Term Care Network is dedicated to relying on guidance from families and healthcare providers to inform activities that include research, knowledge mobilization, and supporting decision-makers on policy and practice issues. The overall aim is to support Saskatchewan long-term care residents and their communities to achieve optimal well-being.

Communities of Practice, Project – August, 2021-Present
Through the Research Connection grant, the Saskatchewan Long-Term Care Network aims to broaden our connections and support activities across the province by facilitating a new focused community of practice specifically concentrating on family integration into caring with older adults across the continuum of care during and beyond the pandemic.
Recruitment for the Communities of Practice project is closed for the 2021/2022 season.

Strengthening a Palliative Approach in Long-Term Care (https://spaltc.ca) is an approach that emphasizes quality of life for people with life-limiting illnesses living in long-term care. This approach emphasizes strong resident, family, and staff communication about the needs of the whole person.
SK LTC Network and SPA-LTC worked in partnership to produce this video as a reminder of the significance of family relationships to health and wellbeing. We share the belief that fostering strong resident, family, staff, and decision-maker relationships is integral to the pandemic response and recovery process.

“Not Just A Visitor: The Essential Role of Family Members in Long-Term Care”
Previously presented at the 2020 Rural Dementia Action Research Summit. In this video, Saskatchewan Long-Term Care Network members explore reactions to complicated issues related to the pandemic in response to the following questions: What challenges are families encountering during the pandemic? Why is it important that long-term care become more relationship-centred? What is our vision for family presence in long-term care? What would it look like if families were integrated into care teams? What are some promising directions related to family presence in long-term care?
